A new mathematical solution for the problem of computation EM response
over a layered earth containing an inhomogeneous layer having linearly
varying conductivity with depth as is derived analytically. The Hankel
transform technique is employed for solving the governing equations.
Tangential electric field in each area is then expressed in the
analytical forms of inverse Hankel transform. Numerical experiments
are presented graphically and are compared with the published results
in the literature. Response curves clearly indicate that the
inhomogeneous layer significantly affects the EM response at the
ground surface.
