The optical properties of ions in phosphate glass have been
investigated measuring absorption and luminescence spectra as well as
fluorescence decay times. The neodymium doped glasses having
composition
in Mol% were prepared by melt-quench
technique. The amorphous nature of the glasses was confirmed by X-ray
diffraction. The phenomenological Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters
were determined from the spectral
intensities of absorption bands in order to calculate the radiative
lifetimes, branching ratios, and stimulated emission cross-section of
the
transitions. The quantum efficiency factor
of
ion (
level) was equal to 0.80. The decay from
the
level was a single exponential and
shortening of lifetime was caused by low-order multiphonon relaxation
and measured at LHeT lifetime is
for 1.0 Mol% Nd-doped phosphate glass.
