The Fourier transform and perturbation techniques are employed to deal with the long time behaviour of solutions for a generalized Boussinesq equation associated with initial-boundary data. It is established that the global solution of the equation takes the form of a uniformly convergent Fourier series with variable coefficients relating to a small parameter presented in the initial conditions. It is also shown that the long time asymptotics of the solution decays exponentially in time.
