Abstract

The optical properties of ions in phosphate glass have been investigated measuring absorption and luminescence spectra as well as fluorescence decay times. The neodymium doped glasses having composition in Mol% were prepared by melt-quench technique. The amorphous nature of the glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. The phenomenological Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters were determined from the spectral intensities of absorption bands in order to calculate the radiative lifetimes, branching ratios, and stimulated emission cross-section of the transitions. The quantum efficiency factor of ion ( level) was equal to 0.80. The decay from the level was a single exponential and shortening of lifetime was caused by low-order multiphonon relaxation and measured at LHeT lifetime is for 1.0 Mol% Nd-doped phosphate glass.
